NEW SHANGHAI | Queens Plaza, Brisbane CBD

BON VOYAGE, ELLENI! My dear friend Elleni (whom I shared my first overseas adventure with) decided to pack her suitcase and jet off for a 2 year working holiday in the UK. A bunch of us went out for a farewell dinner and we chose this relatively new Shanghai place in Queens Plaza.

I am often apprehensive of trying out popular asian restaurants as popularity often is inversely related to authenticity.

After deliberating and trying to democratic, my friends staged a coup and entrusted me, the only Chinese person in the group, to order the Chinese food. We ate our way through almost 15 dishes (of which included the famous Xiao Lung Bao) and I am happy to conclude that despite the popularity of New Shanghai, it still remained faithful to its roots.

And besides, you know it's an authentic asian restaurant when the minute you walk in, 99% of the customers are asians themselves.

RECOMMENDED FOR: a group of friends who aren't afraid to try out something different
