THYME INTERACTIVE RESTURAUNT (SOFITEL BRISBANE) | Turbot St, CBD

To celebrate my sister's birthday, my family went to Thyme Restaurant at Sofitel to try out their buffet. It was just the right amount of fancy for a family dinner but with also the right amount of cuisines/dishes/dessert to suits every kind of taste bud. As part of "La Concina Espanola" happening at Sofitel this month, their food also reflects this recent Spanish inquisition. The menu boasted of paellas, chorizo, Spanish soups and sangria jelly. My mum and dad enjoyed particularly enjoyed the seafood (raw oysters and prawns) while my sister enjoyed the dessert (sorbet!).

SWEET DESSERT CAFE | Warrigal Rd, Eight Mile Plains

On one particularly sultry Saturday night, we went out to try the new dessert place that opened just around the corner from us. I've been eyeing this place off for a while watching it sprout up ever so slowly every time I drive past it.

For a sweet "dessert" place, it certainly didn't offer much variety in the dessert apartment. They only had a handful of cakes (which looked like the store bought defrosted type) and two "special" dessert which was creme brulee  and Thai mango rice pudding. Despite lacking in the dessert department, it made up for it in the drinks menu. The cold drinks were served in cute little mason jars which added to the quasi-industrial them that the cafe boasts. All the drinks were splendid (even better as it was a super hot night!) and refreshing with a touch of Asian flare. They ranged from the standard berry smoothies to the green tea frappes and ovaltine milkshakes.

All in all, it is a much welcomed new restaurant in the southside for what is essentially a black whole for late night hangs. However, don't expect too much if you frequent the cafes that litter West End, Paddington and New Farm. Sweet dessert cafe still has much to learn.

COLLE ROSSO RISTORANTE ITALIANO | Musgrave Rd, Red Hill

Nicole and I met up for our fortnightly catch up session. I got an invite for a 50% off discount at this Italian restaurant and decided to try it out since Ive driven past this place every Saturday when I was working at a vet emergency hospital during university.

We went on a weeknight and it was surprisingly full of diners! We ordered a entree to share which was the I Nostri Famosi Calamari Fritti which was presented beautifully in conical bowl and tasted just as amazing. For main, I ordered Gnocchi alle Cicale di Mare e Zucchini which was gnocchi with zucchini and moreton bay bugs. It was pretty good but extremely filling and the moreton bay bugs were a little bit dry. Nicole ordered Linguine ala Marinarai which looked delicious and if I ever go there again, I would definitely order hers.

The restaurant attempts to emulate an Italian feel with red and white checkered patterns, appropriately accented waiters/waitresses and vintage mirrors/wall decor. I didn't order anything for dessert but Nicole ordered Creme Caramel con Frutti de Boso e Panna. Needless to say, she loved it!

I wouldn't be in a hurry to come here again but for 50% off, it was well for the mid week dinner treat :)

CAFFE & GELATO MILANEY | Racecourse Rd, Hamilton

Just a quick photo of when Yaz and I went to Hamilton for a lazy Sunday afternoon gelato. Ive been dying to try this place out after going to Hosokawa for dinner. It didn't disappoint! There was so many flavours to choose from with a complimentary biscotti to boot. I'm definitely coming back here again so I can work my way through the tantalising plethora of flavours.

FREESTYLE TOUT | Ann St, Fortitude Valley

Just a short post today.

Here is a super belated post from earlier this year when Tim, On Tao, Huldah and I went to Freestyle Tout for dessert after a mega feast at Wagaya. This place is a little bit fancy for dessert with the average dish around $15. But it's definitely worth every cent! They say that we have a separate stomach for dessert but I don't think I have been graced with one that is very big :( I definitely would not have been able to finish one by myself - thankfully we ordered to share. Every dish was richly decadent with generous serves of cream, icing and custard. I would definitely come back again!

16TH ON PARK | Park Rd, Milton

The following is an extremely belated post. The lovely girls from my church took me out for high tea at 16th on Park (after hearing me complain that in my 23 years of feminity, I have never indulged myself in a girly high tea with the girlfriends). I honestly can't remember how good the food tastes but the photographic evidence suggest that is was a splendid afternoon!

The patisserie, cakes, sandwiches and tea were all exquisitely executed. We have a lovely time being girly - talking about our lives, discussing the future and giggly about memories shared. What more could you ask for than Sunday afternoon cake and tea with your bestest friends?

MOVENPICK | Hercules St, Hamilton

After a light dinner at Hosokawa, we wanted to end an already fabulous night with some dessert. Something nearby and not too expensive so we drove about 2 mins to Movenpick for ice-cream. I chose a double scoop waffle cone with choc mint and double choc, my sister chose strawberry and creme brulee and my cousins had a double choc and pistachio. As usual Movenpick offers up a wide range of creamy smooth ice-cream (and a small selection of gelato) with a casual dine-in experience.

RECOMMENDED FOR: anytime, any occasion! Best ice-cream around.
