DEPO | Horan St, West End

First thing I'd like to say is apologies for the poor quality photographs- I've discovered that iPhone does not take great photos at night.

My uni friend and I went out for our monthly dinner date to vent about new graduate life, client/patient stressors and weird bosses with old school habits. I've been wanting to try out Depo for a very long time and I'm so glad to finally have the opportunity to try this place out. I loved it! It's so chic and modern yet cozy at the same time. There were plastic spherical bar chairs outside littered across the deck. The bar/kitchen area is definitely the highlight with it's glittery tiling that flat yea the light at night. I loved that they separated what is essentially a square box by using couches, bookshelf and plant life to make of into two spaces- a bar section (reminiscent to The Loft) and a dining one. The tables were situated around a serpentine couch and each table had their own downright to provide a rather romantic atmosphere (I also think that the flowers on each table may have attributed to that)

The thing that is particularly attractive about Depo is that the menu changes daily depending on the freshest seasonal produce. Tonight the menu consisted of three mains and one pasta with a few entree and soup choices too. I wanted to try the beetroot and marinated octopus soup but alas, it was cold and I'm not a big fan of cold soup. I chose Venison + fondant potatoes + red wine shallots + Jersusalem artichokes + mushroom sauce  and my friend chose the Wagyu sirloin grade 9 + mashed potatoes + beans + garlic butter.

The service was fantastic! The waitress filled up my glass of water before it got half empty and they came to check up on us that everything was going ok. We got served with a basket of bread and savoury macaroon (which were surprisingly tasty!). Both our dishes were delicious. A bit small for the price I paid but the meat was juicy, tender and very succulent. There was nothing special about the combination of ingredients on the plate- it's basically a fancy homecooked-style meal. All in all, Depo offers up $36 dish that could essentially be a Curtis $10/head Woolworths Family Recipe - so if you dont mind paying extra for decor and ambience for what is essentially a mum's Sunday Roast, then Depo is the place to go.

Dinner was a bit iffy for me but I wouldn't mind coming again for breakfast to check out what Depo looks like in sunlight :)
