Why we don't have more food trucks around Brisbane, Im not sure - but I sincerely hope this trend increases as the burgers served up at The Bun Mobile were by far the best burgers I have ever tasted.
Its not hard tracking down The Bun Mobile as they have a calender of their location and times on their website. My friend Tim and I went out to chase these notoriously famous burgers down on Friday afternoon (after we both needed some R&R from the current burdens of work/lack of work). That day, the truck was nestled in a small carpark of 4ZZZ Radio Station at Fortitude Valley and it wasn't hard to find a (paid) parking spot on the nearby streets.
There are only three choices on their permanent menu along with daily specials and a small soft drinks menu on the side. The owners of the food truck were delightful and effervescent with their service and attention to detail. I ordered the Vege Bun (grilled haloumi, seared mushroom, red peppers, baby spinach and horseradish cream) and Tim ordered the Wagyu Bun (slow cooked wagyu beef, butter lettuce, soy pickle shitake mushroom, red dragon sauce).
When it was our turn to collect our order, I was eager to open up the white little treasure box to see if the burgers were worth the hype that it's been getting. And it was.
The buns were the softest I have ever tasted and its white and creamy look gave it a certain uniqueness. The haloumi was juicy but somewhat overpowered by the horseradish cream and mushroom. However, I could still taste all the ingredients in the burger and there was nothing to complain about. The burger was so juicy that I used up several napkins and had sauce all on my fingers and down my arm (very poor etiquette on my behalf!). The vege burger needless to say was amazing.
Im eager to try out the different burgers on offer now!
RECOMMENDED FOR: those of you who aren't afraid to get your hands dirty and have the time to go out of your way to chase down a truck to get a deliciously juicy <$10 burger
